It doesn’t seem like a week or day goes by without a new EV being launched on the market. It means that there is now more choice than ever for the consumer that is wanting to go down the electric route.

Battery technology is better than ever before, and that means there are now cars out there that can go further without the fear of range anxiety or tediously long charging times.

If you have a growing family, there are plenty of choices to be made that can accommodate them and their luggage in an efficient, comfortable and affordable package.

As the country gears up for an electrified future, there are more and more EVs coming onto the market that make the perfect family car. We’ve compiled a list of the top five that offer practicality and above all else – green credentials.

Skoda Enyaq

It may be built on the same MEB platform as Volkswagen’s ID.3, ID.4 and Audi Q4 E-Tron, but the Skoda Enyaq is the best of the bunch.

Its cabin is spacious and well thought out as well as featuring excellent build quality and Skoda’s ‘Simply Clever’ strategy of useful devices dotted around the car like the ice scraper located at the left of the boot hatch.

To drive, the big Skoda impresses and there is a choice of a 58kWh battery pack that can do a claimed 234 miles on a single charge or a larger 77kWh that can give up to 352 miles of range.

There is even a sporty VRS model in the line-up to give those wanting to seek even more driver enjoyment and performance.

Kia EV6

Gone are the days when we turned our noses up at Kias. In fact, they’re cars that we look up to now and one of them is the EV6.

The EV6 sits in the middle of Kia’s electric car family alongside the smaller EV3 and larger EV9.

As standard, the Kia comes with a 77.4kWh battery pack and is available with either a rear-wheel-drive single electric motor that gives a claimed 328 miles between charges or an all-wheel-drive dual motor that can do up to 314 miles. Both models can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent from a DC rapid charger in just 18 minutes.

The EV6 also is great to drive and has excellent refinement, build quality and plenty of standard equipment, as well as coming with the firm’s seven-year warranty.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Its looks may be subjective, but there’s no denying that the Ioniq 5 is a strikingly designed car. Its spacious cabin, large boot area and modern interior design make this South Korean contender one of the very best in its class.

Not only that but with a choice of a 63kWh battery pack that can do a claimed 238 miles or a larger 84kWh battery taking the car 116 miles further to 354 miles between trips to the plug and you have a practical, futuristic and easier EV to live with.

Furthermore, you can get the Ioniq 5 in a spicier N model that comes with 607bhp and is one of the best driving experiences of any electric car.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

If you want to go a little bit more retro with something that harks back to the original Volkswagen Camper then the ID.Buzz could be the perfect solution.

Underneath, there is one battery pack on offer and that is a 77kWh that gives a claimed 250 miles between charge-ups.

The ID. Buzz is more of a van than a car, but it’s a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by SUVs. It also comes with sliding rear doors and a vast amount of interior space and storage. Plus, it looks like nothing else out on the road and it could be the perfect vehicle for a camping holiday.

Volvo EX40

The Swedish firm knows how to develop and design a safe car, and now with its array of EVs flooding the market, they make great zero-emission family cars, too.

The EX40 is essentially a battery-powered version of the popular XC40 small SUV. The EV version has all of the benefits that the conventional model has with the added reassurance of no tailpipe emissions.

In terms of powertrains, there is a single motor, 69kWh battery with power sent to the rear wheels that also gives a claimed 295 miles. A dearer extended-range version has a 78kWh battery that’s good for 343 miles between charge ups and the all-wheel-drive twin motor has an 82kWh battery that gives a claimed 332 miles on electric power.

The EX40 has a generous amount of standard equipment, has decent boot space and the interior quality is one of the very best up there with the added benefit of Volvo’s more prestigious image, too.
